This is the misunderstanding about the question...

Acceptance means one has come to understnad about futility of non-acceptance, rejection, being aloof, non responsive to a given situation..

Mere verbal acceptance does not have warmth and life to it.. Understanding precedes the Acceptance..

Of course.

If you get married you agree to stay together for better or worse in sickess and in health til death do you part. Basicallly that is accepting a deal that may change at any moment with no warning.

In business there are exceptions for acts of God and unforeseeable consequences. The test is due diligence or a prudent man's behavior.

And in medicine they hand you a waiver and ask you to sign it knowing full well that you friend or loved one may die if something unexpected happens.

So yes there is acceptance without understanding because understanding is not perfect while acceptance is broad and far reaching in most cases.

Yes... but it is conditional. Acceptance without understanding is the deferment to so called authorities of a subject, political or religious system with the understanding that "they know better than I."

You can accept without understanding without being led as a blind follower, but you may be ostracized in your own community. Understanding something doesn't automatically assure acceptance nor denial. It gives substance to an idea and encourages one to grow and learn and make informed decisions.

Yes, I think there can be.

Most religions are based on us accepting things we do not understand as being beyond our capability to understand.

We go to our doctor for a check-up and accept his diagnosis without any real understanding of the medicine involved. If we understood it properly, we would all be doctors.

Another, simpler, example is when you watch the news on TV and reference is made to far-away places, you accept the existence of these places based on reports. You also accept the truth of the events being reported without any knowledge of the real situation or its relevance to those involved. This form of uncomprehended acceptance is the basis of all propaganda systems.

Yeah... why couldn't there be?

Oversimplified questions like this sound good, but actual philosophy is very complex and precise. Restating this question in precise terms would take up a paragraph of dense technical language, but there's no need.

What makes us think that understanding is a prerequisite for acceptance? Certainly understanding leads to acceptance, but I don't see how it is a necessary condition. Think anecdotally: do you know any people, or do you yourself accept things that you don't fully understand?

I believe you can definitely accept someone without knowing anything about them or their beliefs. In fact, sometimes it's easy to accept someone without knowing everything about them.

But, for a longer lasting relationship, acceptance without understanding should only be the first step.

Yes, there can be acceptance without understanding it.

But acceptance without understanding is pretty worthless... its better to understand what it is your accepting.

Yes, but without understanding, there can be no compassion.

Good luck and may God bless you.
