I had my brake light on for a week ... then added more brake fluid. The brake light didn't go off until the next day.

I had my engine linght on, got it checked ... the fixed the problem (spark plugs) NO MORE STUTTERING CAR!!! :) But the engine light is still on. Should I just wait like brake light?

The light will go out after the computer sees a certain number of parameters met a certain number of times. Provided that the light was on ONLY because you had a spark plug problem. You can unhook the battery cables for about 15 minutes to clear the computer codes and see if the light comes back on. Auto Zone and many other parts stores can scan your computer to see what codes are in memory.

if the check engine light came on because of bad spark plugs then it may or may not go off after a bunch of run cycles.. I would have it cleared with a scanner and then see if the problem returns...

Some vehicles require having the computer codes reset through a scanner. I used to own an Alero and had to replace an 02 sensor and the computer automatically reset itself. Most vehicles aren't like that though. Take it to autozone and they'll reset your computer.

For the check engine like you have to have an OBDII code reader hooked up to your car and erase the code, it is stored as a hard fault in the computer.

Some codes will stay in there till you erase them. Buy your own OBDII scanner for $50 and impress your friends and family with your diagnostic prowess.
