i tried dawn( scrubbing with a toothbrush) and palmolive and they dont work so great.

also for people who have reptiles for pets, a vet told me that smoking can give your reptile cancer! she worked with a boa that got cancer through second hand smoke because they absorb the smoke!

Dawn. it even says so on the bottle, that's what they use to clean animals in oil spills. I I know it can irritate animal skin, atleast dogs, but a turtle shell should be fine and you should be sure to rinse it. It's better than the alternative: the oil.

Dawn or another good 'oil-cutting' dish soap is fine. A mild detergent like that will not hurt turtles- unless they are living in the stuff!

If it does not work, it really is not a big deal- turtles do not breathe through their shells and the oil will rub off or get shed off after a while if the habitat is clean.

The biggest thing here is to get the turtle back home ASAP to minimize stress.
