What are some things that could be wrong with it? Everything seems to be fine but nothing happens when I hit the switch.

Most likely cause is no power.

Check the fuse. Is the hood controlled by a switch on the wall? is this switch in the on position, and is it functioning properly?

Do you have power to the unit? is the breaker closed and current flowing?

Can you spin the blade on the blower? Be very careful and use a pencil or other tool to try and spin the blade. If it does not spin freely, the motor is bound and will need replacement. If the blade spins but is difficult, bearings are wearing. You can lubricate with some oil, but the motor will still need to be replaced.

Is there anything restricting the movement of the fan blower? Is excess grease weighing down the blower?

Orak has great suggestions---and a thumbs-up vote from me---I might also add that the switch itself could be bad. If you're knowledge of 'electrical' is sufficient, check for power at the switch...if you have power but the switch doesn't turn the fan on, then it's the switch!

could be a blown fuse; plug in a radio where that vent is and see if it works. Could also be the switch is clogged with grease. Take the whole thing down and clean it really good.

If its a combination vent / light, and the light works, you have power. Then its either the switch, or the fan motor, or a loose wire. You may just have to take it down to check it out. Good Luck.
