Hey everyone.

My daughter-in-laws brother just found out that his girlfriend is pregnant. She is 16.....(ouch!). Her parents have forbid him to see her, and is telling him that they are going to force her to get an abortion. Can they legally do this??? Her brothers have supposedly told her that they are going to push her down the stairs.......I don't know how true that is.....I don't know the family, but the idea that someone would even say something like that scares the hell out of me. Not wanting to get into the middle of any of this, I am simply trying to find out if they can forcibly perform an abortion or not. She is desiring to file for Emancipation, but the law here says she must not live in the home and must be supporting herself....but if she leaves home, they will report her a runaway, so I don't see any way out of that one.

Any advice or help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I know in Massachusetts no one can force an abortion on anyone, not even a minor. This situation is so hard for all involved. My sister was pregnant at 15 and my mother tried to "make" her have an abortion. My sister refused. Then my mother tried to "make" her give the baby up for adoption. I was 21 at the time with a 1 year old child. I begged my mother to let me raise the baby but she wouldn't even discuss this. My sister was so scared and confused. I told her it was HER decision, that I was here for her, I'd raise the baby...anything she needed. My mother had the adoption papers all set up. The baby was born 2 months after she turned 16. When she held her daughter, she knew she had to grow up quick and start making decisions for her baby. The first thing she did was NOT sign the papers. My mother was so mad, but I was thrilled. I think I cried for a week. My niece is 18 now, a beautiful, caring, loving, wonderful young lady. And I no longer speak to my mother. But that's another chapter...

No they can not, its against the law to force people of any age into having a abortion.

No, they can not legally do this. She is being kept hostage by her parents. She needs to (or someone else) needs to call child welfare and turn her parents in for doing what they are. She needs to get on the phone and press charges against her parents...someone needs to start creating a fuss and stopping this from happening! It is her body, PERIOD! Any Dr. who does anything to her is guilty of malpractice and IMO her parents should be in jail!

if they make her get an abortion then they are making her give up her legal rights to have control over her own body. They can try to make her get an abortion but if she goes to the Dr and tells them, NO, they cannot perform the abortion.

No, they cannot force her to do this against her will, but they can Brainwash her to think this is best for her.
