I use mac and linux. The mac is the perfect computer. Linux makes a great pc. I am very sick and tired of being asked how to get rid of viruses and spyware by window people who insist on running something that doesn't work.

Why do you people refuse to buy somthing that works?

I don't care what you guys run. I am tired of getting called over and over asked to fix windows pcs because they get so virus and spyware infested. Problems that people shouldn't have.

I'm getting to the point that I no longer help people with these problems because I think if you want to run windows, you should be able to fix it yourself. I hope that it is userfriendly enough.

lmao, OK for the benefit of those who haven't ever debated this tired old subject, here we go....yet again!

People still use windows because the vast majority of popular software is written specifically for Windows and will not run under Mac or Linux.

Mac hardware was, until more recent years, both proprietry and expensive. In fact, the reason Mac is still here at all is thanks to a $150,000,000 cash injection from Bill Gates in 1997 and a commitment from Microsoft to develop their Office suite for the Mac platform.

Linux (in all flavours) still has inferior driver support for many hardware devices found in todays market. Whether this is as a result of the market flood of Windows specific hardware or not is irrelevant, the fact is that many off the shelf devices wont work fully under Linux and even more require fairly complex installation tweaking to end up with what is often at best a compromised performance benchmark.

Most hardware vendors do not offer linux as an option for operating systems and merely install Windows in OEM flavours (some do not even allow you to buy systems without a Windows OS).

Where business is concerned, file compatibilty is often an issue between operating systems. Take for example programs like OpenOffice that can open Word documents, there are many instances of enhanced features of Word being used in documents and rendering errors are generated in the Open Office environment so, to summarise, 100% compatibility has not yet been achieved thus forcing companies to stick with the mainstream operting system.

There are many more reasons, and I could list them all here given enough time but the fact is that Windows does work....yes it has issues but it works for the man in the street and it works for business....if it did not work, you can bet that the large global corporations would be saving their licensing fees and dropping Microsoft like a shot to save money.

By the way, I use Linux, Unix and Windows and would agree that Linux is the superior Operating system over Windows by a long way, it is just too complex for the man on the street to handle.

If you are really fed up helping windows users, at least you can go recompile your kernel :)

Excuse me, but Windows works better than Mac - you get more for your money, as Mac costs $500 or more on average than a PC. And, it's the stupid people that don't know how to use a computer that you really need to worry about. It's those people who ask the "how to remove a virus" questions.
And, think about it. If everyone moved to Mac, there would be more Mac viruses than PC viruses. Same with Linux.

well having used mac windows and linux I would say that it is because macs are not nearly as user friendly as pcs, and linux is worse then Mac. Also most games are made for windows and fewer are made for mac and linux. As why people don't switch its because change takes time. maybe in 100 years windows will be bankrupt.

Fear of the unknown, and the fact that due to peer pressure, many software vendors do not provide Mac and Linux versions, a problem if someone is not very computer literate.

Windows is what gets taught at school etc.

People are brought up now on windows machines. Itsy just easy for them.

Linux is becoming more widely used but can be a hassle for someone who just wants it to work.

To be honist also, if half of these people used Linux / Macs im sure they would still screw it up.

There no way to account for dumb people.

Because the price of an Apple system is a little out of some people's range. Plus, they are familiar with the Windows operating system and people don't like change.
