Mine was a little odd. First of all, I wanted to learn legal reasoning as another way of solving problems (it is great for that). Secondly, I was an employer who hired a number of attorneys, and I needed to understand what constituted quality work in their field. Finally, I had been doing a lot of volunteer work with teens whose problems often seemed to put them into the legal system, and I wanted to be helpful. I'm now a member of the Bar, but I don't practice for a living, although I do use my knowledge in volunteer work, and I find that I use the information I gained at work all the time.
