If the URL that is asking for your credit card info is a secure (encrypted) site, you are pretty safe (https://.... in the address window, plus a padlock on the information bar)

To add another layer of safety, contact your credit card company for info on using one-time-use numbers. They will be happy to assist you with these & they're free to use

You need to seek a reputable Publisher.I wouldn't seek this type of service from the web. It isn't hackers you need to be aware of.
It is unscrupulious crooks just waiting for folks like you.

I have used my credit cards many times online to purchase from Ebay and other places; I have never had a problem. I don't think it is any riskier than using it anywhere
