There are 8 pints in a gallon and "A pint's a pound the world around" therefore a gallon (of water) weighs 8 pounds. A pound equals 16 oz and 8 x 16 = 128 oz. Also visualize that a half gallon of milk (at the supermarket) contains two quarts (or 4 pints) and a full gallon must contain 8 pints.
