A blood test can determine your thyroid/thyroxine levels. This hormone is a determinate for metabolic rate. If you are hypo-thyroid you may need medication.

You can also have a basal metabolism test. Although with the new blood tests this one may be obsolete. I had one done as a teen-ager many years ago.

You can also lower your metabolism by overly restricting calories. Your body goes into starvation mode.

Exercise and good muscle mass and muscle tone can up your metabolism.
