We lived in Charlotte, NC for 4 years and we ended up building with Saussy-Burbank.
My husband and I drove through some prospective neighborhoods ~ where KB was building ~ and one man actually had a sign in his front yard blasting the company and saying that they had sold him a lemon ~ even though the home was brand new!
KB also left neighborhoods unfinished. They only built some of the houses they said they were going to put in the development. In essence, they abandoned the neighborhoods ~ one neighborhood had 3 houses that were still in construction mode and left standing and THEY LEFT.
Doors wouldn't shut, windows wouldn't stay open, doors and windows weren't plumb, there were plumbing leaks, they used shoddy materials.
On the other hand, we were very impressed with David Weekly, Saussy-Burbank and Toll Brothers. Pulte homes also had some of the same issues as KB Builders. They slap them up in a hurry with no consideration to actually problems. They also left many punch-lists unfinished.
Research your builder very carefully. Contact NARI or another reputable company and ask the realtors who THEY think are the best builders.
Good Luck!

As a mortgage loan officer, here is my two cents. KB has been in business for a long time, THey build cheap houses, and when the respective departments catch up with thwm in their code violations, they bankruptcy and close, only to start again under another name. There was a whole subdivision here they built where ALL the homes were coming apart less than a year after building. The gov. made them buy them back. They closed down and started up as KB homes. Simple, Do not buy KB

howdy! I stay in a KB residing house myself, and as an energetic Realtor in Northeast Florida, I even have additionally offered 12-15 New KB properties contained in the final couple years. each and all of the consumers I even have worked with have been very chuffed with them. i admire my residing house, and it met my expectancies. keep in mind, KB properties is a production builder, and that they actual construct bins. no longer likely many improvements. i understand all KB communities o.k., and you could locate profiles for all of them on my website. do no longer hesitate to touch me if i'm able to answer the different questions abou them or be of provider in any way. I've never heard of them. What you might do is check with the cities they build in to see what their standing is with that city. You can check with all of their suppliers to see if they pay their bills on time. Of course you can talk with people the have built with before, but I would rather know what kind of financial shape the company is in. Do they offer a home warranty, if so, what does it cover. What are they like to build with. Are they going to charge be a upcharge for changes, etc. If you plan to purchase a home that is complete, check to make sure all the permits have been signed off, all the inspections by the city / county /state have been signed off and approved. Especially make sure that the builder has "certification of occupancy".

That is all I have ever heard of them. Plus when I was shopping for homes, I went into one of their developments because I was considering having one of their new homes built. Unfortunately, I decided against it because one of their MODEL homes was leaking from the ceiling at the corner of the hallway and kitchen---of course the portion of the wall nearest the leak had visible mold there. That was enough to scare me away.

Yes, this is correct. They barely make code and use very cheap materials. There homes have poor resale value as they are not built to last.

By asking you are only going to find people who love or hate them. Most of us haven
t even heard of them. Check with your BBB and Chamber of Commerce along with asking several lenders. Between them you should get a realistic opinion and not one that is totally biased.pp
