You'll need to lift the car on jack-stands after removing the right front tire and wheel. There are two small screws that hold an alternator plastic guard located inside the wheel well opening. The two screws are located very close to the steel brake line as it passes from its holder to the inside frame rail. Dis-connect the battery ground. Remove the serpentine belt. There are Three long hex bolts that hold the alternator in place. If you need more space to work in the engine compartment remove the power steering reservoir that's bolted to the strut tower. You'll need to do this to have room to remove the very top alternator 18mm bolt because it's hidden behind the large black low pressure steering hose. The top two alternator bolts are a wrestling match to remove. There are two holes in the uni-body frame where you can partially slide them into as you twist the alternator to remove them. The main power screw is located to the 2:00 position. Be extremely careful to remove the power clip beside the screw terminal on the alternator so as not to damage it.

The alternator must be removed through the fender well opening slightly ahead of the right front strut. It'll take twisting and swearing on your part but that's the only route to get it out.

I'll swear with you as you do this job. Good luck.

Your car came with 2 different 3.0 V6's. They were dubbed the OHV Vulcan and the DOHC Duratec. On the Vulcan motor, when you open the hood, you should see OHV on the black valve cover, and for the other, you will see DOHC DURATEC. Also, Tauruses with the Duratec motor are badged on the fenders displaying DOHC. As for the amp rating on the alternator itself, there should be a label on the alternator showing that.

that alternator is on the bottom in the back of the engine. you need to lift your car up to get to the alternator.it will take you about an hour if you have the time and patience to get under there and wrestle the thing loose. it ain't easy but shouldn't be too hard either
