I would like to know whether the people other than pharaohs were mummyfied and buried or were they cremated in some other way... I am interested about the history and mystery of Egypt... Recently i had been doing a research of HAPSHETSUT The Lost Queen of Egypt, when this question came to my mind. Unable to find the answer in any other source I ask Yahoo and hope that my question would be answered...please if possible tell me about the process of mummification of the general people if they are different from the pharaoh's Since i have already got the mummification process of the pharaoh's.
I would be very thankfull to the persons who answer me...
Thanks

Only the rich would have been able to afford tombs and pyramids were only for the Pharoahs and other Royals. Some poor people were just buried in the sand I assume alot were buried like this as the heat can't have meant any sweet smells, I'm not sure about Middle Classes though.

It's 'Hatshepsut.'

During the Old Kingdom only the pharaohs were mummified and entombed.

During the Middle Kingdom, mummification was extended to nobles.

During the New Kingdom, mummification was extended to any Egyptian wealthy enough to afford it. It was very expensive, however, taking at least 2 years income, as in addition to buying your tomb, you had to pay the priests to mummify you and you had to purchase a copy of the Book of Coming Forth By Day (Book of the Dead) which was a collection of funerary spells that ensured eternity in the afterlife. If you didn't have the 'book,' then it didn't matter whether you were buried or mummified, you could not exist in the afterlife without the spells.

So yes, other people besides pharaohs were mummified and had tombs, but only the wealthy. Poorer citizens such as the laborers were buried in mass cemetaries without mummification or funerary spells.

Yes, people other than Pharaohs were mummified. They were mainly from the upper echelons of society, however, like members of the Pharaoh's court. Have a look at this site:- http://www.spurlock.uiuc.edu/explorations/online/mummification/Pages/history1.html

They did not have the money for tombs etc. They did the funeral pyre (cremation) ceremony.
