I am not English per-say, I live in America unfortunately, but my mothers side of the family is from Herefordshire (spelling?) and my grandmother came over here when she was 8. I personally love the english and your customs.I don't believe much of the stereotype about them being stuck up and extremely proper. there are nice people and mean people, rude people and polite people everywhere.

I feel like a lost soul over here and i really need to move across seas but i need to be done with college before I do so.
The only thing that gets to be a little much with the english is the american bashing. I'm not a big America fan myself and i really dislike living here but a lot of englishmen will openly bash the country when they had tony blair just as much as we have bush. everyone makes mistakes and instead of talking bash about it i feel that anti bush americans and the english can work together to make peace in the world rather then spend all of our time critiquing him. That would be the only thing about the english that gets on my nerves a bit, not admiting that they can be wrong to in political situations and in war situations. We are allies so lets be nice you know?

other then that though english people are wonderful and pleasant, i am around them quite frequently at home. They are quite funny and i love the accents and the media over there is quite brilliant.

p.s. thank you for the lengthy responce to my question, we both seem interested in finding out what other people think of the english!

Well I don't know a lot of English people in person, so I'm basing most of what I know on those few people (I try not to base too much on the media or what I see on places like here). But from what I've seen, while there can be nice people and mean people and everyone in between (just like anywhere else), for the most part everyone seems to be really cool. I love the England and the English, I am addicted to some of your tv programs (Doctor Who mostly), and I think your country is so beautiful (although I'm only speaking from pictures and things since I'm too broke at the moment to be able to actually go there on holiday). I find it fascinating and funny that while we both speak English, I sometimes have a hard time understanding what y'all are saying; it's like I need a translator or something. I enjoy a lot of the pop culture (tv, music, fashion). As far as the actual people, like I said I don't know that many Englishmen but they're all really nice. But then I come on here and see Brits bashing Americans and I think how on earth is that helping anything? We are supposed to be building a global community, promoting tolerance and acceptance so how is bashing someone else doing any good? But then they are probably just upset about something, and a lot of Americans on here are arrogant little twits so I try not to let it bother me. Anyways, I digress, but to be honest, beyond my Doctor Who obsession and my enjoyment of some of the other shows and music that come out of England, and a general desire to travel there one day, I don't spend a lot of time thinking about the English.

I married a Brit and he is great. I lived there for about a year, and enjoyed everyone I met. I did find that drinking was a bit much over there. I don't drink (very little - seldom), so people get obnoxious and sloppy so I don't care for that part of the average Brit, but other than that I have no problem. The ones I met are generally very loyal and sweet.

I love the English people! And they are people like everyone else! Nasty at times, and nice at times!
It is called being human!

I heard most are nice. Like every place you have nice and mean people. Also they have to warm up to you first. I will actually be in the U.k. next month studying at a University and everyone I have been in contact with are really nice.
