You know the formula for the area of the square:

Well here it is:

Area of a square = side ^ 2

or if u write in short form, its:

A = s ^ 2

We know the area, which is 81, so put 81 in place of A

so its:

81 = s^2
take the square root on both sides since u need to find 's'

so, s = 9, and the unit is inches, so 9 inches is ur answer!

Ok, so you know that the shape is a square, and you have the area.
The formula for the area of a square is s^2. And the area is 81 square inches, so your formula is:
s^2 = 81"
Then you just work backwards, rearranging your formula so you get:
sqrt(81") = s
9" = s

Therefore one side is equal to 9".

the area of a sq. is the size of one side situations the size of one side, in different words, area = s^2. because you're given the area, take the sq. root of it to get the size of one side. The sq. root of 80 one is 9, so the respond is D.
