That's the "We built the front end too flimsy and had to put this brace in to keep it from twisting" bar. If you drive the car without it, it could be almost impossible to get back in because the front end flexed too much.

Mazda MX-5 Miata early body style with a 1.6 liter dohc engine. That is called a strut tower brace. Braces the top of the suspension and helps cornering by holding the top A frame square to the road. There should also be a bar across the differential to complete the set. Oh by the way nicely detailed and red painted engine parts!!!

The bar you circled is a strut/shock tower brace. It's purpose is to stiffen the strut/shock towers which in turn will make the vehicle handle better. As for a installing one it should be a bolt on deal where you unbolt the nuts holding the strut/shock into the tower and place the bar on the studs and replace/retighten the mounting nuts.

It's called a 'Strut Bar' It's used to prevent chassis flex by distributing it between both strut towers thus reducing the amount of body flex or give to some degree. And they should not be hard to install just bolt in place.

It is a strut brace.

Used to stiffen the suspension - add to cornering abilities

And keep the car square over the road.

Front and rear sway bars should be on as well as high energy polyurethane bushings

Nice start to a cool car, I see a lot of work there, but I see a lot of room for imrovement as well.

lts called a cross-brace. It adds stiffening to the front suspension so that it doens't distort under high torque.
