If the recipient really wants a hamster, then it's a good gift.

HOWEVER!
You should give the hamster a week or so before Christmas. This will give the animal time to settle into its new environment before all the noisy chaos of Christmas morning, which can be very stressful and confusing for an animal - in something as delicate as a hamster, it can even cause a heart-attack.

The same goes for all animals, and all present-giving occasions (birthdays, etc).

Only if you know for a fact the person wants one. And if it's for a child, it's best to clear it with the parents first. Some people don't have the time or the inclination to take care of a pet, not even a little one like a hamster. My mom once gave one of my younger cousins a fish, then had the nerve to get mad when my cousin tried to explain that she didn't really have time to deal with a fish in between college classes, working and taking care of her children and dogs. So just consider the person's situation first.

Pets as gifts, unless the recipient knows about it, is a bad idea..If the pet is for a child..Guinea pigs are far better. they are tame and rarely bite also the cannot "escape" like a bloody hamster...we have 2 and they are wonderful...they will even "weet" at the kids when they kere them come in from school..

no, because it helps if the recipient picks out the hamster. maybe they want a golden, or a banded, or a chocolate, or a black bear...etc...

make sure u get a habitrail cage,t hey are by far the best, the hamster will get stuck in the other cages tubes, because they are smaller.

I don't think any pets are good as a christmas gift. The person receiving(such as a child) may grow bored of it after awhile. So I think it would be best not to buy at any holiday.

sure but its a bad present if the person doesn't want it just make sure it comes with a cage and ect. and make sure the person/ child is dedicated to it talk to them a while before christmas (like now) and make it clear they have to take care of it or pets or something. good luck!
