It is really all about believing it yourself. If deep down you are shy and believe yourself to be shy... so will everyone else. If you pretend often enough that you are comfortable and confident (act the way you perceive those who are), then you will eventually begin to see yourself this way. It is an actual retraining of your brain and beliefs. That is what is so cool about our minds we have the power to change them anytime we want. "who you are determines what you perceive" and Change your mind change your life.

bet ya that i am more shy than you. i force myself every day to be brave, to talk, and to not just listien. none of my friends believe that i am shy. the best remedy is to ASK a question or make a complimentary remark about something. when you ask a question try and make the other personal smile. the question then leads into conversations and you just keep going from there. don't discuss sex or private manners. just general questions which would make the person feel important that you went to them for advice. trust me - still shy - and it works everytime. time will make it more natural for you to do this. and always smile and say hi/hello to every person you meet or make eye contact with. everybody loves to feel that they are "special" - try that and then you will understand that you are "special" to yourself and to others.

less internet, myspace, email, chats, phones, and such but more talking to the ACTUAL person. and more talking to people and more reading outloud. going out more often and trying to make new friends all the time... it should put off the shyness later on =]

I had the same problem when I was younger. What helped me the most was joining Toastmasters international.

I still like their motto: We can't get rid of the butterflies, but we can teach you how to get them to fly in formation.
