hey buddy it depends on the the weed is that you are spraying. it has gone to seed , what you are spraying it with and the time of day that you are doing it if it is to hot out the weed killer will not work and if it is cooler the35 degrees out the pours on the plant will not be open. there are weedkillers that only work on some plants and some plants need to be sprayed on the crown of the plant

I believe many weed killers work by spraying the leaves. I don't know how you can spray the roots, since they're underground. If you can get at the roots, just pull the thing out.

To kill the weeds, spray the center of the plant and the surrounding leaves. The weed killer will work it's way to the root and the weeds will die.
You don't have to directly spray the roots. If you flollow the directions on the can,it tells you what to do and how long it takes the weeds to die.
I find Round-up to be best and works the fastest.

I think the roots are what you are supposed to be spraying to kill the weeds.

Root, or as close to the root as possible. Should say on the weedkiller what you need to do.
