What do I need to pack in my hospital bag and have ready for the big day?? Also when do I organize my birth plan? I'm thinking there might be aides online so I can start researching and deciding on my own now so I discuss it with my doctor. Anybody know a good source of either?

For you: Nightgown (with buttons down the front for easy breastfeeding), nursing bra, slippers, undies, socks shamp/cond., soap, hair ties and bobby pins, lotion, going home outfit.
For daddy: razor, soap, extra underwear, socks and shirt, snacks and water.
For baby: different outfits(sizes preemie, 0-3 mon. & 3-6 mon. just in case), mittens, caps, socks, booties, recieving blankets, washcloths, wet wipes, diapers.
For memories: handprint molding kit, camera and several extra batteries.

The hospital will provide you with sanitary pads and also diapers and wipes and shampoo for baby.

For the birth plan, there are great interactive tools here - you can create it online!

I don't know any web pages, but decided who you want with you. If your going to use pain medication what form to you want. If you want a typical devilry or want to try something like a birthing ball.

For your bag, make sure you have tons of pads(the hospitals are the nicest) you can use there's for the first few hours but after that I recommended having your own. Make sure you have shoes for the shower and everything you'll need for a shower. Bring a couple pairs of comfortable clothes you can change into. Have extra because your going to be bleeding a lot. Make sure you have a nice outfit for the baby to come home in.

Good Luck, hope I was some help.

As far as your hosptial bag goes....

You will need ....
1.something comfortable to wear after delivery.. those hospital gowns just don't cut it!!
2. Cozy socks, with a rubber kinda grip on the bottom. the hospital is usually cold and your feet get cold but you don't want to slip and fall. It feels funny walking around after you have the baby
3. Lotion, hair care products, tooth paste etc...
4. Lip balm- my lips were really dried out!
5. The baby book- to put the copies of the foot prints & make notes of things you don't want to forget
6. A call list of friends and family, to let them know you had the baby- you don't want to forget anyone
7. Baby outfits- the hospital usually has little tops but you will want to bring comfy sleepers and a cute "going home" outfit
8. The hospital provides diapers... use them as long as you can!! But bring your own in just in case
9. If you are going to breast feed (I hope you at least give it a try.. it is such a wonderful expiernce) you will need some soothing lotion... they sell it anywhere they sell baby stuff the best kind is in a purple tube.. can't remember the name
10. Camera and video camera with tape!!
11. I NEED a fan to go to sleep so I bring a little portable one, you might want to bring soft music or something
12. Snacks for hubby or who ever will be in the room with you
13. The car seat will need to be ready in the car, they won't let you leave with out one
14. If you are going to do a pacifier bring one with you!
15. A going home outfit for you and baby but don't bring your pre-pregnancy clothes.. you will likely be disappointed! Bring something comfy you liked when you were about 4-5 months along.

I think that is everything I needed. Best of luck!!

Pack a change of maternity clothes because you won't have a flat tummy, phone card if you need to make long distance calls, an outfit for the baby to go home in, toothbrush, maternity underwear and nightgown unless you want to wear the hospital stuff. As for a birth plan, no idea, I didn't make a birth plan and the lamaze did not help me.

FWIW, it's not that unusual to never even open your hospital bag. If your labor brings you in early in the day and the baby's born by late in the day, with no complications, you could be sleeping in your own bed that night if your doctor approves. (It's a lot more restful than sleeping in a strange environment, IMO.)

I was in the hospital 30 hours with the first child, 16 with the second. I never opened my bag either time. Each time, I changed into their gown during labor, had the kid, and put my own clothes back on, since they were still clean.

Veritas answered this question well. I would add lip balm and baby powder (for me). Labor is hard work.
