(both of the above star Audrey Tautou)
actually, I can't think of many that don't have her in it.. I know there are some great ones but the names are not coming to me... guess I'm in an Audrey Tautou mood today.(I'll add them if I remember them later)

Hi. Wow, where to begin? 400 blows is a personal favourite, any Jaques Tati films, La reine Margot, A bout de souffle is so cool, anything with Alain Delon, Cyrano de Bergerac with Gerard Depardieu is fantastic...I could go on for hours. I guess it depends on what kind of films you like. The French have an incredible history of film making, and often produce highly individual, thought provoking pieces Art. There, I said it, Art! Please don't let that put you off, if you're willing to approach things with an open mind you can discover real magic out there. Oh and try the original of Les Diaboliques as well, amazing!

The star of Amelie is a French actress named Audrey Tautou. (And if you're a fan of Brand New, you'd be interested to know that their song "Tautou" is about her.)
Look her up on imdb.com. Some other movies of her's are:
1) A Very Long Engagement (quite a popular movie)
2) He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
She even had a starring role in "The Da Vinci Code", although that was in English. Also, she plays a Turkish immigrant in "Dirty Pretty Things".
I have also heard great things about Joyeux Noel. It is a very touching story about the Christmas Truce, an unofficial ceasement of combat between the British, German, and French during Christmas Eve of 1914.
imdb.com can be very resourceful. Here are a whole bunch of French movies:
http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Languages/French/
http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Countries/France/
And, surprisingly, wikipedia.org is a huge help, too:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinema_of_france#French_films
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_French_films
Enjoy your French films!

Hello, i'm french, and i can tell you that french movies are not really good... american movies are much better. Amélie Poulain is the best french movie i've ever seen. I can list a few titles but it's french titles: LE PACTE DES LOUPS (it occures in 18th century, it's a story about a huge wolf that eat people, it'a a really good movie), CAMPING i hate but a lot of people love this movie, it's a comedy that occures in a campground). And like Emmy sais: LA GLOIRE DE MON PERE from Yves Robert: i do love this movie that occures in the beginning of the 20th century. It's a story about a family that live in southern france. The young boy is the main character, and he's so cute!!
email me for more details, bye!!
PS: the french title for a very long engagement is UN LONG DIMANCHE DE FIANCAILLES. I have not seen it.

Taxi 1 & 2 are excellent films... Abit like The Fast & The Furious but with a taxi driver... But both films have plenty of laughs in them.
One of my favourite films is Nikita (french), it had an American remake called The Assassin which was nowhere near as good as the original.

the three colorations Trilogy, The Double existence of Véronique, and Amélie are a number of my admired video clips. there's a competent danger you desire Godard, he made a brilliant variety of super French video clips interior the 60s. Pierrot le Fou (1965) Vivre Sa Vie (1962) Contempt (1963) a woman Is a woman (1961) Breathless (1960) some greater sturdy French video clips The 4 hundred Blows (1959) Persepolis (2007) The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) Plus, that's in Polish quite than French, by skill of the comparable director simply by fact the three colorations Trilogy & The Double existence of Véronique. in all likelihood my admired action picture. It became made for television, truthfully 10 40-50 minute short video clips in a loosely related sequence. in case you enjoyed the character intensity in his different video clips you will adore this one. The Decalogue (1989)

Also Les Visiteurs, a time travelling comedy with Jean Reno and Christian Clavier
