People who characterize Democrats who are running for President as "Socialist" have any education in politics or economics, or training in critical thinking?

Is this just a product of the dittohead society where the lowest common denominator is appealed to?

It isn't without some justification that someone could call the Democrats, or even the Republicans, socialist. They both believe in the nanny state and they both spend far too much money. But neither is really socialist: they are state capitalist, which is perhaps worse because in this case it involves the use of state power to protect and expand the power of large corporations and economic elites at the expense of smaller economic actors without an effective social safety net. America is a statist monster, yet it still can't protect its people.

i think it's along the same lines of people who characterize all republicans as fascist (not that i'm saying you are).

the very serious problem of the party system is that instead of getting a party platform, you wind up with a bunch of people who all have different ideas.

that's why there are primaries rather than the party choosing who is in their best interest.

so yes, calling someone a socialist because he has a (D) after his name is woefully ignorant. however, it is unfortunately common. and from all sides.

All I know is that it seems there are always attempts by some democrats, regardless of office, who seem to think separating people from there money in the form of higher taxes is the answer to everthing. They also work on the premise of the more you have, the more to take and give to the less fortunate in the form of government programs. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but that sound like Socialism to me.

No, I think they are just mis-informed hate mongers who know nothing of the reality of the Republican party, which is a den of liars, deceivers and hypocrites. Their leader is known as The Great Divider, and The Great Deceiver. This party have been destroyers of the earth from the first inauguration of evil in the oval office to this day.

Did you know that in Europe, we have several CONSERVATIVE parties with "SOCIALIST" in their name ?

Maybe some people just miss what socialist means :-)

It is kind of a taboo word in the US and dates back from the "red scare". I find it so funny, whenever I meet elder US citizens.

i see ppl on both sides throwing names that they deem insulting when others do not agree with them. i don't understand why they can't express their opinions in a civil manner. it would give them more credibility if they would restrict themselves to a civil thoughtful debate. but i guess that is asking a lot of some.
