Detailed studies have concluded that there is no link between sugar consumption and hyperactivity or any other type of 'bad behaviour' or learning difficulties. Children may become over-excited on occasions where lots of sugary foods are eaten (e.g. birthday parties) but this is a consequence of the situation, not their sugar intake.
I don't give my 2 yo old daughter any sweets or candies, I always add water to her cup of juice....that doesn't help...she is such a hyper kid...

It will make some kids hyper for different reasons. Some are just get hyper because they got to have a treat. Some actually get a boost of energy from the sugar.

I think it's more of a mental thing. Kids THINK sugar makes them hyper so when they have sugar they feel like they can act hyper. Or if they just feel like being hyper they can be.

Sugar and caffeine together makes kids hyper. One time I made the mistake of letting my brother have Mountain Dew with dinner. The result was kinda scary.

I think Doctors would like us to believe that but as a parent I don't believe it does make them hyper granted we should watch how much they eat of it but if they are healthy and happy what harm does it do? NONE.

Some kids do get hyper off of it. It's normally more caffeine than anything, though.

The red dye in some foods made my son more hyper than anything else. He finally outgrew it.
