Well just because you wish something, doesn't mean it's going to happen, and they probably aren't going to consult with us here at Answers; no! matter! how! passionate! we! are! lol

BTW I have both.

In all seriousness: XM and Sirius are trying to merge. Both companies want this merger to save themselves. Both companies have spent LOTS of $$$ to set up their respective businesses and the subscription and advertising revenue hasn't come in as well as they'd hoped. For instance, you should see the studios at XM in Washington - incredible and very expensive!

Both are public companies that fall under the authority of the FCC (among others). It is likely this merger will be allowed. Currently only one FCC commissioner is opposed.

The good news is that the new company will be financially stronger than the two separate ones and the chances of you being able to enjoy satellite radio will be better under a stronger merged single company.

One of the things promised by Sirius boss Mel Karmazin is a special deal where you'd be able to select your favorite 50 stations from each service and only pay $6-$7 per month for that new plan. Or keep the full service for about $13 (what you are paying now).

Regardless of the uninformed who disagree with this planned merger, it would be a good deal for all involved - except maybe terrestrial radio and certain employees who would be let go - as one of the reasons for the merger would be to cut costs by taking advantage of the economies of scale it would provide.

Others who might not benefit are those seeking jobs in the industry as there would be fewer jobs available and only the best, most mature and most experienced would be hired.

Hope this helps clear the air. Good question. A star for you!

UPDATE: Another hurdle to the merger is the FTC. The FTC just filed for an emergency halt to the merger – which might be a better signal about the government’s view of XM and Sirius. Stay tuned, it ain't over yet.

As outstanding because of the fact the iPod is, it gets boring after an prolonged automobile journey. I took a highway holiday from Austin, TX to San Diego, CA and had to close off the iPod. particularly, I grew to become on my Sirius because of the fact it has a super style of categories of song, information radio, comedy, etc. once you're driving, Sirius wins arms down. You mine besides say XM besides because of the fact that they merged.

I doubt that it will fold, but since it is losing money, I expect it to start playing commercial advertising to generate some revenue.

The same thing happened with cable TV 30 years ago. Pay cable TV was at first commercial-free then started limited advertising; now it has almost as many commercials as free, over-the-air (OTA) TV.
