1 - I've never found air filters to be necessary for fish tanks. 2 - 1 goldfish. Each goldfish should have at least 10 gallons to itself, with the first goldfish having 20 gallons. Your tank is a 20 gallon long, ergo, only one goldfish. 3 - You should plan to keep them in there forever. 4 - You should change 25-30% of the water once a week. 5 - 20 gallons. Inch per gallon rules are not handy at all, especially when dealing with goldfish. What are the other fish you have in there? Goldfish are big, messy fish, they should be kept alone.

The formula to work out the capacity of any tank is
Length x Width x Depth in centimetres divided by 1000 = the capacity in Litres

46 x 20 x 15 = 13,800 cubic inches.

There are 12 x 12 x 12 = 1,728 cubic inches in 1 cubic foot

So the tank holds 13800/1728 = 7.99 cubic feet of water

1 Cubic foot of water weighs 62 lb so 8 cubic feet weighs 496 lb.

1 gallon of water weighs 10 lb so the tank holds just under 50 gallons of water.

1 Gallon of water = 4.546 litres so a 50 gallon tank will hold about 227 litres of water assuming it is completely full of water, if there is any gravel etc you will need to deduct the volume of it..

Sorry the calculation is so involved, there may be a simpler way to convert to litres but I normally work in gallons.
