Maybe you are refering to fluid dynamics.

There are two types of flows: laminar and turbulent.

Laminar flow is when the layers of the fluid are moving in unimpeded, non-intersecting direction. It is characterized by a smooth flow. You can see this when you open your water tap just enough that there is no spraying that occurs.

Turbulent flow is the opposite. When the speed of the flow is faster than what can be accomodated by the spout.

The flow of water from one place to another is called water flow.It may be due to gravity, temperature difference, and pressure difference. The flow from the cloud to earth is called rain. This is due to gravity. The flow of rain water from the mountains to the sea is called river. This is also due to gravity. The flow of water under oceans is called ocean currents. They are the result of temperature difference. Finally the flow of water from the earth towards the air above it(against gravity)is called hot springs. This is due to the pressure difference between the top of the earth and the next layer underneath.
