Fleas need a blood meal to live. If you use a product on your animal that will kill the fleas if they bite it like Revolution is the best for cats or there are several for dogs as well like frontline, then within a few weeks, there will be no more fleas because the males don't bite they will just die but the females will for their eggs and everytime they do, they will die or some of them it just makes them steril and they die. Fleas do not live very long. When our cat had to spend time in the hospital it brought fleas home. We never had them before and being an indoor animal we never needed flea meds. Well, for 3 months we ended up using Revolution by the vets suggestions and we have no fleas now and the cats have not been on revolution for 6 months now. That is the safest way to rid your home when you have kids. All products on the market, even the holistic ones and the home remedies do not guarantee that the fleas will end up near the product. Fleas can hybernate for months if there is no blood meal but if you have a pet, they will seek them out. When I was a kid we moved into a house that was vacent for over a year. Within 24 hours there were fleas everywhere. Our indoor cat was full of them but back then there was no flea meds. We had to treat that house for 2 years to get rid of all the fleas in it. They were even in the basement. The only reason they bite humans is because they do not have an animal. They prefer fur to bed their eggs in. They cannot stay on humans so that is why if there is a pet, they will attack an animal before they attack a human. Treat your animal and in 3 months you won't see a flea.

Yes, I have two small children that were 2 and 3 months and when we moved our *new house was infested with fleas ! The previous owners had and indoor/outdoor cat that wasn't treated so when the house was vacant they just multiplied ! I went to move some things into the house and they were everywhere.. Jumping on the children and biting them ! So, I went to the local wholesale club and bought some 12 lbs. of baking soda and 2 lbs of idodized cheap salt and mixed them together in a ziplock bag and sprinkled it all over the carpets.. The baking soda smothers the live fleas and the salt will puncture the eggs.... Leave it on overnight.. Go to the grocery/drug store and get some cheapie flea collars/new vacuum bags... If you have a canister vac.. Just place flea collar in your canister to kill fleas that are vacuumed up, if bag change bag after every vacuum.... If you have a pet give it a bath in dishsoap if you don't have regular dog shampoo just be careful of the eyes/ears.. That will at least kill any fleas on the animal.. Try to leave the soap on for about 10 min.. This will atleast give you a start on ending the lifespan of the fleas which eggs hatch about every 2 weeks so you may have to do this acouple times... We also did the RAID brand foggers and left for the afternoon.. Just follow the instructions and *don't worry about turning off the gas, we didn't and our house is still standing..Just be sure to treat all floors... especially the basement or the fleas will just flea down to there ! Good luck

sprinkle some Borax ( near the laundry products ) around and then sweep it in. About 24 hours later vacuum it up. You'll probably have to do this three times. My friend's dad had three dogs, and he did this about once a week year round. No fleas on dogs or in the house.

Go out for the day. Bomb the room with a fumigation bomb. Wash the rug the next day. Do not allow baby on rug for a week.
