Of course it all depends on what kind of education you have and what languages you speak...
http://www.undutchables.nl/ is a well-known employment agency for non-Dutch people in the Netherlands so it won't be a problem if you don't speak Dutch there. Also check this page out; http://www.expatica.com/source/jobs_home.asp?subchannel_id=169&name=Netherlands+Job+Search&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Netherlands%2BJobs&utm_term=work%20amsterdam&gclid=CJzBl6v9hI4CFQIwlAodkg3tNg
If you DO speak Dutch, you could try http://jobsearch.monsterboard.nl it's the biggest jobs-site in the Netherlands I think and this http://amsterdam.nl/werk_inkomen is the City of Amsterdam page for employment and such...
I hope this helps, otherwise be more specific about what kind of work you're thinking about.

She's probably upset that you're thinking of moving away. You're her baby, she'll miss you. She's also probably apprehensive about you moving far away with a boyfriend. I'm 20 and live with my man currently, but in July we're moving across the country. My parents are worried even though we've been together for nearly three years and he's a good man. It's just how parents are. You're an adult now, you make your own decisions. Your mother needs to respect that, but you need to listen to her concerns. What I question is, how long have you been with your boyfriend? Do you understand how truly expensive Florida is? I live in South Florida, I'm moving because it is way too expensive to live here. My car insurance is $1600 every six months. Where I'm moving it's $250 for six months, the same coverage, everything. Housing prices here are through the roof, a one bedroom apartment goes for around $1500 a month. Plus food and gas are more expensive here.

There are many ways of finding a job in Holland. One of the best things to do is find some British people, they stick together abroad and any Brit running a business there may give you some work. I got offered a job in the countryside by a Scottish flower grower, and offered a job shuttering before I even left Schiphol. Just talk to people and ask.
First though you will need a SOFI number. This is like a British national insurance number. To get one of these you need an address in Holland. It need not b permanent, just a hostel, or a friend will do. While you have an address to have mail sent to, go down to ABN AMRO bank and open an account to pay your wages into. The "immigration police" may also require your passport number (this is not a police force, just a translation of the name of the immigration service)
EU nationals should have no problems working or getting an address, bank account or SOFI number.
When you have a SOFI number register with the Arbeitsburo (job centre). Speaking Dutch would be a major advantage.
EDIT - I know Holland is not just Amsterdam. I have worked in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Breda, Maastricht.

Before you can work you will need a sofi number... just apply at the local belastingdienst. I needed to wait about 2 weeks but i got it on the same day as my interview so that was fine. Bank accounts can be tricky they often require you to have a permenant address and prrof of address (such as a rent contract) I found that ING were good and only required me to have a sofi number.
There are lots of agencies that can find you english speaking work. try Undutchables, or Unique multilinguals... You can always email them your cv in advance and see what they might be able to find you (although they don't really do short term contracts usually it's stuff in excess of 6mnths).
Youth hostels do often have work but it can be seasonal and may require you to have accomodation in another place already. ALso there are Irish pubs everywhere (like O'neils.. just gogle irish pubs amsterdam and you should get a list). So you could alwaystry emailing them in advance too (although they will most liekly want to meet you in person).
good luck!

Check with youth hostels, they often look for interantional staff and are sometimes willing to take on people who haven't much experience in that line of business. You won't be paid much, but can usually get free board.

Stay in the UK a little longer and get some kind of third level qualification first, it will make finding a job in NL much easier. They already have enough underschooled foreigners coming in! But University graduates are much more welcome.
