The Soviets oppressed and persecuted anyone who didn't agree with their shallow atheist worldview. They harassed them, censored them, jailed them and even killed them. Now atheists and secularists in America (and Europe) appear to be doing almost the same. Whether it is activist judges, places of work, schools, atheist organizations like ACLU, the mainstream media, liars like Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris and their mob numbering in the millions.
All this makes one ask: Are we witnessing the rise of Soviet-style persecution in the west and especially in America?

r1b1c*, America is not a continent. North America and South America are each continents on their own.

No, you are exaggerating.
Hey, I don't like the way the left interpret the Constitution and their sophisticated version of the Establishment Clause any more than you do. And I certainly don't like activist judges. But your question reeks of ridiculous paranoia. The left haven't oppressed religious people in the U.S. into submission.
I get sick of seeing left-wing zanies talk about the rising tide of "the radical religious right" and they accuse the "r.r.r." of trying to "tear down the wall of separation between church and state" and to "create a theocracy." Now I've got to see drivel like yours instead?
Both sides are nuts. Take it from me, power is being shared. Neither side will ever conquer the other and drive the other side into submission.

LOL your fascist friends control the white house and the Republican party. And Dems at least pay lip service to Christianity. Christians persecute the atheists in this country. The assumption when you meet someone in this country is that they are christian. Is anyone ever afraid to say they are christian are they going to be persecuted for it? I see businesses up and down the street with the little Jesus fish. Are they losing business? How long would a darwin fish business last or would it prosper?

I think you need to worry abou the conservative religious in the U.S. People like Bill O'Reilly and Rush need to be jailed. People are being jailed not for being religious but for speaking against the conservative views of this fanatical neo-Nazis. If you speak ill of the presidents lack of education (graduated without ever making an A in college) or the fact that NONE of his plans have worked in almost 8 yrs. Or that you can't access government websites in a lot of libraries now b/c funding is being withheld.
Yes, there is oppression but not from atheists. It's from the crazy conservative right wings trying to judge everyone and taking away free speech (well unless you are freely speaking of the bible).

We are not witnessing persecution in the US, or in Western Europe either. The atheists are nowhere near gaining any sort of political power. There has been a lot of limitation of our freedoms, under such things as the Patriot Act and government eavesdropping in the name of security. Giving up freedom for security is not the meaning of the phrase, "Freedom is not free".

I DO agree with your question and think that it is the very thing which we are seeing, but it isn't coming from atheists...that is where you lost me. What does believing if we have a god or not have anything to do with it?
Where it IS coming from is the ultra rich bankers who control everything which we do.

Sure, whatever. Strange, but I'm guessing you weren't dragged off to a gulag after asking this question. You see, THAT would be real oppression
