Teens and music?

Question

How do you get people to stop making fun of you because of the music you like? I'm 15 and all the music I listen to is from the 60's-80's. People make fun of me all the time, they think I'm weird. I can't stand today's music (no offence if you like it). People expect me to like rap (which I hate) or those stupid pop rock bands. I like the Beatles, the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Motley Crue, Van Halen and stuff like that.I told some people that before and they just laughed at me. My siblings do that, too. I have a Beatles poster on the wall in my room and my sisters were laughing. Do I just ignore these people or say something?

I know how you feel. 2 years ago when I was in the 3rd grade, my classmates used to think I was the biggest freak because I used to have Beatles T-shirts and I wrote reports and had a poster of "Help!" in my locker, and they listened to music like Ciara and hip-hop, rap, etc. Last year I was still obsessed when I finally realized, what do THEY care? If it's my obsession then let me worry about it.

You could ignore them, because if they aren't getting attention from you, they'll stop, and if people say "weirdo" just say, "Oh, well."

Ignore them. I'm 19 and also enjoy those same bands...I even like music from the 20's-30's. I hate rap with a passion. I do like some of today's rock and of course, love country...but I do admit that the REAL talented bands/songwriters/singers were from the 60's-80's. Just ignore them. I'm sure you'll meet others with similar music taste eventually, and until then...who cares what everyone thinks? Don't let it bother you.

I'm 13, and I love 80's music, but I also like SOME of today's music. The people who laugh at you just have no taste in real music!!

It was the same for me. Listen to what you want to listen to. No one has the right to tell you what you should or should not like. Ask the people that tease you about it to listen to what you like, but also give the music they like a chance. You might just find there are a few songs (not necessarily all the songs from a group) that you like. You will be surprised.

Just ignore those idiots. Theres a lot of good music from back in the day. Rap sucks big hairy balls, so i dont blame you for not liking that.

everyone has their choice and music, it shouldnt bother anyone. they should respect you for how you are and not judge you by the music you listen to. just dont let people know it bothers you, when they make fun of you, if you show them it bothers you they will continue to make fun. just turn the other cheek and keep on listenin' to your choice of music, eventually they will come around or not. but at least you enjoy your music, and have fun. best of luck.

Most kids your age like certain music because that is what is expected of them at that age. You are being your own person and choosing what suits you. Keep doing what you're doing and don't bow down to peer pressure.

You just have better music taste then most of the kids your age. Ignore them- they wouldn't know GOOD music if it hit them in the head!

you rock i love pat benatar, journey, motley crue, alice cooper....all those bands.... they rock....of course i do also like some of todays bands like linkin park and avenged sevenfold and system of a down...
