I had the pleasure to see Miles Davis so many times in the last ten years of Miles life, I knew his drummer Ricky Wellman and we were guest on many evening to sit and watch the Miles Davis Band perform. Let,s start in my own home town Philly, Academy of Music, Valley Forge Music Fair, Renado Beach California,Strand Supper Club, what a real nice supper club. Mann music center also in Philly out side venue a summer concert also Penn's Landing also outside on the water front. Wolf Trap in Vienna Virginia, Wanner Theater in Washington D.C., Constitution Hall in D.C. The Spectrum in Montreal Canada very Nice supper club, Oven.s Auditorium Charlotte N. C., Prince at one time owe a club in Minneapolis call Graffi Bridge saw Miles there. The very first time I saw Miles I was sixteen years old at a place called the Uptown theater in Philly the band was Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, the late great drummer Tony Williams And of course Miles. In Toronto Canada Massey Hall, I had saw Miles way before the last ten yrs, of his life 1981 to 1991. At the spectrum in Philly in 1969, also in New York at Avery Fisher Hall. One other Secret so nice to be put on the guess list to walk up to the box office show I.D. and handed a envelope with a ticket and a back stage pass. Saw Miles in New Orleans at the jazz and hertiage festival, one thing I had forgot to mention Miles turning his back on the crowd was not a disrepected but if you notice Miles was conducting or leading the band, I wish people would stop talking about Miles turning his back on the audiences, chief was a master musican that left a lasting impression on you if you ever got the chance to see him live. A aura in the air at Miles Davis concerts that I've never felt before.

I had the pleasure in the late 80's on the tour for the Amandla CD. It was at the JVC Jazz Fest in Houston. It was amazing to say the least. When he walked out on stage, there was an energy & presence in the arena that you didn't feel with the other artists. More like living history in front of your eyes. Anyway, he played great and the band was awesome. Kenny Garrett on sax was featured quite a lot. Miles played with his back to the crowd most of the time, but I didn't feel like he was unfriendly or rude - I felt like he was trying hard to listen to the rest of the band and interact with each of them. He walked around the stage all the time, never standing still for long. When someone would solo, he would stand next to them, listening or just behind them. He spent a lot of time between Benny Reitveld on bass and the drummer (whose name escapes me at the moment) really getting into the rhythm section and pulse of the music. I really got the feeling that he was putting the music first, not putting on a "show" for an audience. He would be playing the same way if there was no one there, I think. Overall a fantastic experience, and one I am very grateful to have witnessed in person.

I've seen Miles perform twice: once at the Greek Theater at UC Berkeley and once at the Concord Pavilion. Both concerts were fantastic. At the Greek Theater the show started after a warm up group had finished. The stage went dark as the stage hands were getting ready for Miles' group. People in the audience got up and went to the restroom or the concession stand. After about 10 minutes the stage was still dark and then above the background noise of the crowd you could hear Miles blowing some blues licks on his horn. It was funny to see everyone running back to their seats and screaming out, "He's here!!!!" When the lights came back on Miles was on stage with a funky outfit on and jammin his a** off!!!! What a great show.

never saw him live ... I was born too late to have seen him when it would have been most interesting to me, anyway, which would have been during his 1969-1975 electric period.
