I'm sorry. I just want to know where I can find reliable information on my family for FREE. They're MY family, I shouldn't have to pay 40 frickin' dollars to search on a site that doesn't even have the slightest idea who i'm searching for anyway.

Because someone went through the trouble of researching and cataloging every piece of that information you want access to.

They also pay for the domain space.

40 bucks is a pretty inexpensive price to pay to type in a name and get back as much information as you may get back.

Consider doing the research yourself, family bibles, courthouses etc., when you realize how much time it takes, then you'll understand the 40.00.

First of all don't take this wrong. I'm not super religious but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints has THE most complete data base for researching family history.

A lot of the local wards and branches have a microfiche file which has a lot of data that has been researched thoroughly.

You don't have to be a member of their church to research this information, and if they don't have it, they can see if the family resource library can get the information for you. There is a small fee for this service however, but it is far less than $40.

If you pay that much for your family's history there isn't a guarantee it is the right one.

My family tree has been traced back to the 1600's in Hampstedshire England.

If your family had kept its own history, there'd be no need to pay someone else. Somebody else presumably took the trouble and deserves to be paid for it.
