Removing CD from a CD-ROM drive with the power off.

There should be a small hole on the CD-ROM faceplate. This hole is designed to remove a CD manually.

Straighten a paperclip except one bend. Bend the last one to 90 degrees so you have an l shape.

Carefully push the long end of the ell into the hole in the CD-ROM faceplate. You should feel some resistance, then the CD-ROM should reject the CD.

After you remove the CD.

Try starting the computer, keep pressing F8 to start in Safe Mode.

If you successfully get it to load XP in Safe Mode

Right click on a blank area of the computer Desktop

Left click on Properties

Left click on the Settings TAB

Make sure the Screen Resolution is 1028 X764 or less.

Click OK.

Restart computer - let it start normally.

If the above does not work:

Was the Linux CD made bootable?

If it was bootable, possibly your OS has been over-written.

It could also be a hardware problem as another answerer stated.

Good Luck.

It is not because of the cd - looks like a hardware problem.

First unplug the computer from the wall (power) and leave it for 2 minutes (to discharge PSU capacitors). Plug it in and try again.

If that doesn't work, unplug everything from the computer but the monitor, and try again. If it doesn't shows anything - you have a malfunctioning box.

If it is under warranty - call tech support.

If not , you can open the case and (REMEMBERING WHAT WAS CONNECTED AND WHERE - AND TOUCH AND HOLD THE METAL FRAME OF THE CASE TO DISCHARGE STATIC ELECTRICITY ) disconnect the hard drive and CD drive, and try to start the computer. If that doesnt help, the problem could be power supply , memory, motherboard, and last and highly unlikely CPU.

Good luck !
