It's very normal. Don't worry ... it doesn't mean that your hormones will be crazy all the way until menopause. In my experience, I started feeling annoying hormonal stuff and irregularities at about 39 and thought "oh no! Is this what it's going to be for the next 10-15 years???", but they were just a phase followed by stability. I'm 45 now, and have gone through periods of annoying hormonal flux and period problems, but also times of stability. Right now, life is good!

Bottom line is that things will change hormonally over the next decade, and periods may be harder to predict. It won't necessarily be a continual problem, and you won't necessarily keep getting worse over the years.

I know it's shocking to be thinking about perimenopause, but it can begin as early as 35. It doesn't mean menopause is around the corner.

This happened to me. I would either have a period every 2 weeks or none at all for 3 months. Then I (finally) stopped having periods at all. This whole process took about 3 years. It's called menopause.

You could be perimenopausal but it is always a good idea to have a check-up to make sure that this is all it is.

A good book that helped me is: The Pause: Positive Approaches to Premenopause and Menopause by Lonnie Barbach.

Good luck!

Stress can affect your cycle or you could be experiencing peri-menopausal symptoms. Talk with your female relatives (mom, sister, aunt or cousin) & see what is normal for your family.
