Phobias are irrational fears about something. Claustrophobia is an irrational fear about being in confined places.
This is why I hate the term 'homophobia'. People don't have an irrational fear about gays, they just don't agree with the choices gays make. Using the word 'homophobia' is an attempt to win an argument by intimidating the other person.

Claustrophobia is an anxiety disorder that involves the fear of enclosed or confined spaces. Claustrophobes may suffer from panic attacks, or fear of having a panic attack, in situations such as being in elevators, trains, boxes or aircrafts.
Conversely, people who are prone to having panic attacks will often develop claustrophobia. If a panic attack occurs while they are in a confined space, then the claustrophobe fears not being able to escape the situation. Those suffering from claustrophobia might find it difficult to breathe in closed auditoriums, theatres, and elevators. Like many other disorders, claustrophobia can sometimes develop due to a traumatic incident in childhood.
Claustrophobia can be treated in similar ways to other anxiety disorders, with a range of treatments including cognitive behavior therapy and the use of anti-anxiety medication. Hypnosis is an alternative treatment for claustrophobia.
The name claustrophobia comes from the Latin word claustrum which means "a bolt, a place shut in" and the Greek word phobos meaning "fear".

A claustrophobic is someone who is scared of small or confined spaces. There are heaps of celebrities who suffer from this ! An example of a small space would be like a small lift or something, or small room.

Being unable to cope with confined spaces.
When I was a kid there was a man who worked with my dad..he somehow got locked in a milk storage room, he freaked out and kept charging at the huge door which was about 2" thick, and he actually destroyed it trying to get out.

Fear of beinnngg in a small place. Like my sisters claustrophobic, so she doesn't like being in crowded elavators. Why in the world is it in this section?

I had a friend in college who said he was glad to have come out of the closet because he was getting claustrophobic in there. heh heh... I miss him! He was a great friend!
