now this may not be well known but i know of one software that is really good and uses very little resources unlike norton 2007. it is webroot Spysweeper AV. it does cost money which can suck but if you weigh the facts of either paying 49.99 or paying 130 to remove viruses from your computer 49.99 is not bad. SS AV (spysweepver with antivirus) Is a very good preventive software that searches with you as you go through the internet.
SS AV has been ranked number 1 for a couple years now and its spyware removal is bared none by others.

But if you wanna go free than i would recommend avira antivirus . it is also another good one that i have had for years and i have never had a maleware. it just doesnt protect agains spy ware as.. nortons doesnet. avg dosent. so the free ones wont protect you from that. (but its a small price to pay for freedom from crap when searching the internet ) :D

I was a Norton user for years, , and have tried a few others, McAfee, Sophos, Black Ice Defender, PCTools, Symantec and others whose names are already forgotten.
This is a list of supposedly the most popular current antivirus software :
The Shield Deluxe
* CA
* BitDefender
* Norton
* Kaspersky
* NOD 32
* Panda
* McAfee
* TrendMicro
Not on the list is AVG which is also my favorite, due to ease of use and awesome updates, and Avast, which I tried last month.

Well there are several anti-virus program out there. The best is "Norton Anti-virus 2007" and "AVG Free Edition". Norton updated are kinda big and you need to restart your computer after installing it or downloading updates. I am currently using "AVG Free Edition" which I download off the Internet for free which provides small updates which install very fast and you don't need to restart your computer after installing it too. Also there are updated to this like every 8 hours or so.

If you want more protection you should also download "AVG Anti-Spy-ware 7.5". If you have both these programs you should be fine. Just run the updates everyday or you could set it up to download updated automatically. And run both these programs a full scan once a week.
