Alright the other day i was hanging out thinking and i decided that EVERY trilogy i can think of follows the same rule in my eyes. The 1st is the best, the second falls short of the 1st and the 3rd is better than the second. Of course better, best and all those words are opinions but the movie trilogies that follow that in my eyes are Shrek, PoTC, and spiderman. Has anyone else noticed this "trilogy rule" or is it just me?

Yeah ive noticed a few exceptions as well. It seems like my rule works better on newer trilogies than older ones. Also can anyone tell me if the Bourne trilogy (if it is a trilogy. Not sure if they are making 4) followed my rule? Havent seen the 2nd or 3rd so i really cant judge

I noticed it. It seems like when they make the first movie it is so great that the pressure on the second one is to out do the first one. When it falls short then the third one as to some what fill in the missing pieces. Good Catch!

The trilogy rule often does apply, but I can think of a few exceptions. To me, Indiana Jones ( I know, the fourth is coming out soon. I mean the original trilogy), and the Scream trilogy each had consistent second and third films. I wholeheartedly agree with you on the PoTC movies, though!

It's true for most trilogies, but in my opinion there are three exceptions: Indiana Jones, The Godfather and Star Wars, episodes IV, V and VI.
In these trilogies the second was best.

yeah it does kinda work but the one we always go with is name a sequel that better than the prequel and not part of the trilogy

As for your point The terminator trilogy has to wipe it out the first one was a classic the second one the best of them all and the third one fell short of the first 2

The Godfather 2 was better than 1. There are a few exceptions.
