I went to the state supreme court in New Jersey the other day to file for a set child support payment and visitation of my son, and I was given a court date. But, his mother and I have come to an agreement, and I wanted to cancel the court date and file that were given. I already posted this question before, and I got some great answers. The one I'm most interested in is the suggetion to go to the Court Clerk and get the file pulled. How do I go about doing this? We can have a lawyer sign off on our agreement, is that a good idea? Please, let me know.

Glad I helped so far.

I called the court myself (Michigan, family court) got connected to the clerk (the guy who assists the judge). I had to go down to the court but if you call 1st you could save yourself LOTS of time. Yours is a different state and court so it might vary. I believe the judge had to sign off on dropping the case. It's been a few years so details are hard to remember. Do it ASAP though.

Also, it's possible that you could simply bring in a signed, notarize agreement and it all could be done at the court date. For that you really need a lawyers advice on how it works.
