I am a builder north of Boston. The frost line can vary year to year. In Mass. any type of footing for concrete slabs or foundations must be a depth of 4 feet.

Your frostline is not going to change regardless of the size form your pouring. Check with your city or county for the depth they require. It most likely changes as it works it's way from South to North. Might not hurt to check into having this done by someone in the concrete business. I hope this doesn't sound nasty, but I don't think you have a clue.

I have to agree in part, with answer number one. Certainly unless someone here, happens to be from MA, and has that specific info, No one else can give it to you.
An 8 inch slab is perhaps OVERkill for any area, but an 8 inch frost line is pretty common in the 48. You need not go any farther than zoning/code agency offices for the EXACT info.
Other details you omitted are the size of the slab,,,sq. ft. and it's intended use. No offense but certainly important info in determining issues.
Even at 8 inches thick, I'd be adding any support mechanisms I could,,,IE: Re bar , etc,,,No matter the geographical location.

I used to live in Mass. The frost line in Mass is between 31/2 to 4 fooot. This could be a problem with the rocky soil. Hope you have a machine to dig for you,
