x represents the smaller number and y represents the larger number.

x+3=y
10x-3y=33

subsitute y for x+3 ..therefore

10x-3(x+3)=33
10x-3x-9=33
7x-9=33
7x=33+9
7x=42
7x/7=42/7

x=6

now to figure out y..

x+3=y
6+3=9
y=9

hope that helps :)

Let the larger number be "N"
Then the smaller one will be "N-3"
By the statement'
10 x (N-3) - 3 x N = 33
10N - 30 -3N = 33
10N - 3N = 33 + 30
7N = 63
N = 63 / 7 = 9...(The larger number)
The smaller number = 9 - 3 = 6
Hence the numbers are "9" and "6"
. . . . . . . . . ==================

Let x ----------the larger number
x - 3 ----------the smaller number

10 (x-3) -----10 times the smaller number
3x -------------- 3 times the larger number

10(x-3) - 3x = 33

10x -30 - 3x = 33

10x - 3x = 33 + 30

7x = 63

x = 63/7 = 9 larger number

9 - 3 = 6 smaller number
