I am sorry, but with a disorder such as schizophrenia there is nothing natural that will help you. You need to stay on your meds even if they make you feel odd. I suggest maybe a switch of meds. You will only get worse overtime when you are not taking your medication. It is like someone going off their insulin and trying to find alternatives. Diabetes is a disease that needs to be treated with drugs. Sorry.

Doctors are never going to suggest natural alternatives because they can't profit from them like they can with pharmaceuticals. The best thing to do is consult an herbalist or a specialist in homeopathy to get some suggestions. I haven't really studied much on mental health so I can't make any recommendations on that. I am a customer/patient of a Dr turned homeopathic specialist in California named Dr. Schulze. He has tons of remedies for things, and if you call them you may be able to get some recommendations. Here is his website:

Good luck! Hope you can find a better way to control your condition.

Yes. I had a friend with that problem. She was in a mental institution for awhile, too. Then she did the following and in this order:
1. Start trusting God & do things His way. (The body, mind & spirit are all related - to heal one you must work on them all.)
http://www.amazingfacts.org/items/study_guides.asp
2. Stop drinking caffinated beverages - coffee, sodas. Stop eating chocolate, too.
3. Stop eating meat. Eat a variety of veggies, fruit, grains, & nuts & seeds in moderation. (Most Seventh-day Adventist churches give free info on this & don't pressure you to become a member.)
4. Start exercising. Walking is the best to clear your body & mind of the bad things (foods & medicines) that have gone in it.
5. Take B vitamins.
Just taking the vitamins will not help you. You need to stop putting garbage foods into your body. Learn to cook or eat raw so you don't get all the additives in packaged foods, too.
I also know someone else who had mind problems. I don't know the proper name for what he had, but he had been on lithium for decades. He also did the above, but needs B12 shots once a year and he's functioning fine without the drugs now.

if your not taking your meds i would suggest you see a herbalist, nutritionist, acupuncturist, massage therapist, yoga instructor, and what ever other natural therapy you can get your hands on. you can do it if you want to, but it's going to take a lot off effort on your part and a huge responsibility to do the other natural therapies. there is no quick fix for schizophrenia, it will be a full time job keeping yourself well for quite some time. where there is a will there is a way!

Skull Cap might take the edge off. It is an anxiety relieving herb. Comes in pill and liquid form. Please follow directions on package.
But schitzophrenia is a serious disease and you should listen to your doctor. If you don't like the drugs he had you on, talk about alternatives, but the only real way to treat it is with perscription drugs, sorry.

No, there isn't anything. What you are going to find is that your symptoms are going to come back and be quite bad. I would describe to the doctor the side effects of the medication so that he can consider something to help with this, or, another medication to help with the schizophrenia.
