my laptop gets flooded with unwanted programs anytime i browse. i need to get rid of them. some of them just won't go.

I've used Zone Alarm and Avast free versions for 3 years and haven't had a problem.

I have used Avast for Years, but Learned comodo antivirus 2.0 beta Is way better, so I would reccomend Comodo.

Sounds like you also need Spybot Search and Destroy from http://www.spybot.info

After installing these programs you need to update them and then in Spybot do an Immunize and the run scans in both programs
