Hey there!

Here's the answer.

sqrt(4x+4)-4=0 --> Write the problem.
sqrt(4x+4)=4 --> Add 4 to both sides of the equation.
4x+4=16 --> Square both sides of the equation.
4x=12 --> Subtract 4 on both sides of the equation.
x=3 Divide 3 on both sides of the equation.

Check to find any extraneous solutions, or solutions which do not satisfy the equation.

sqrt(4(3)+4)-4=0 -->
sqrt(12+4)-4=0 -->
sqrt(16)-4=0 -->
4-4=0 -->
0=0, true.

Since the solution satisfies the equation, the answer is x=3.

Hope it helps!

First: 4x + 4 >= 0. So, x >=-1

Second:

V(4x+4) = 4

You cant square this equation unless both sides are non negative or you would be introducing roots. But 4 and
V(4x+4), so, we can go on:

4x + 4 = 16

4x = 12

x= 3. And 3 is greater than -1, so, its the root of the equation

ITS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE SIGN OF THE EXPRESSION THAT IS UNDER THE SQUARE ROOT. If x would have been -9, then we should have discharted it as a root.

And its very important that you pay attention to the things you square

-5 is not equals to 5, but (-5)^2 = 5^2

Transpose the 4 to the right side

sqrt (4x+4) = 4

Square both sides

[sqrt(4x+4)]^2 = 4^2

4x+4 = 16

4x = 16-4

4x = 12

x = 3

EDIT:

√(4x+4) - 4 = 0
√(4x+4) = 4
[√(4x+4)]^2 = 4^2
4x+4 = 16
4x = 12
x = 3

√(4x+4) - 4 = 0
√(4x+4) = 4
squaring both sides,
[√(4x+4)]^2 = (4)^2
4x+4 = 16
4x = 16 - 4
4x = 12
x = 3

√(4x+4) - 4 = 0

√(4x+4)= 2x+2

(2x+2) -4 =0
+4 +4

2x+2=4
-2 -2

2x=2
\2 \2

x=1
