I see that some people say: "You can't trust a man who does't drink"
My grandmother said to her daughters, "Never marry a man who does not drink".
Is it grounded these statements? By the way I am not talking about Islam in this case.

This sounds outrageous and stupid. Can you imagine someone saying "never trust someone who doesn't snort coke" or "never trust someone who doesn't gamble" or "never trust someone who doesn't run around after other women"?

I have no idea what the mentality would be of someone who holds this opinion, but I wouldn't pay much attention to it myself.

"you can't trust a man who doesn't drink" makes absolutely no sense to me! Neither does the second statement. I know a lot of people whose lives were ruined and even ended by drinking. I sure don't trust drunks and I'm married to an alcoholic so through experience, and in another lifetime, I would much rather marry a non drinker.

some folks simply do not care to drink. There is nothing wrong with that choice. A man is no less a man if he chooses not to indulge, nor is a man who drinks any better a man. I have perhaps three glasses of wine in a year, am a combat veteran and father of four bright, hardworking kids. I once went four years straight without touching booze in any form. I've also gotten drunk three or four times in my life. Didn't like it, and haven't overindulged in over twenty years.

My ex is an alcoholic and I would prefer him not to drink. Sounds to me like the people who say that have their own drinking problems and think that people who don't drink will draw attention to their drinking. If someone doesn't drink by choice, not because they can't due to alcoholism, it's just their choice. Some people don't like the feeling of being out of control.

I think that people who don't drink even a glass of wine or two probably have their own issues with alcohol such as being ex-alcoholics or children of alcoholics or are just trying to make themselves feel better somehow for example: my own parents claim that anyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic, even those who drink responsibly. It's really very dramatic and foolish, but they're super religious. It gives them an excuse to judge and continue with their belief that santa is out to get them, er I mean satan.

I think its personal choice. My in laws do not drink because of there own personal reasons, my husband only drinks maybe a beer a week, usually a lot less. (weve had the same 6 pack in the fridge for 3 months now.) I dont drink because i just dont like to. A lot of our friends drink and im cool with that, and a lot of them dont for various reasons.

Its all personal preference and im not going to judge anyone else's choice.

I don't really think of them any different...I'm sure they have there reasons. I have friends that drink because they don't like the taste.

As far as what your grandmother used to say, the only thing I could guess is that sometimes when your drunk, the truth comes out, therefore if you don't drink your living lies? I'm just guessing but I don't think it makes a person good or bad.

Some people who don't drink are very judgmental, so maybe that's where it came from.

I don't go by that saying. I judge each individual I meet by how they act with me.

I'm less likely to trust a chronic drinker than a total non-drinker.

hmm..that's weird. 'cos there are a lot of reasons why people don't like to drink. my husband is allergic to alcohol, but he's a good man alive. or any medical history that a person couldn't drink alcohol at all. You can't judge people by that, can u?
my moslems friends are actually like to drink, they are the liberal moslem.. they are fine with it.

I don't think anything about people who never drink alcohol, I figure they have the right to decide whether they do or not.
