there are over 150 reasons that the light can come on. the most frequent reason is a loose gas cap that can cause an emissions leak. You didn't say what the 'code' was that the dealer found and theoretically repaired. As part of the repair they need to run confirmation testing. if the light came right back on it would appear that they didn't quality check their 'fix'.

many of the emissions items on that car are under the federal emissions warranty for 8 years or 80,000 miles. I would certainly advise you to take it back to the dealer.

you can also go by any AutoZone parts store or AAMCO and have them "pull the codes" to tell you what the problem area is. Both will do so at no charge although AAMCO may want to charge you for 'additional diagnosis' once the pull the code. just say 'no thanks' and go back to the dealer. Doing this independent cross check will give you more information that either confirms or contradicts the original dealer diagnostic.

the condition will not cause damage to the catalytic converter unless the check engine light is flashing. if that is the case then the car should not be driven.

You didn't mention if the dealer was a Honda dealer or an independent that you bought the car from. If it was not a Honda dealer, I recommend that you take it to one as they know the particulars of the emissions control system for that vehicle.

hope that helps

You need to take it back. There are 100 or more possible reasons that the light comes on.
