don't you silly Europeans realize that by calling Americans 'stupid' and belittling us, you're forgetting where alot of our ancestors came from? (That's Europe, for the slow ones out there.)

I guess you can be just as stupid and prejudiced as we can (or maybe that's where we got it from).

Any thoughts on the subject?

Oh, and can someone explain to The Unexpected Mate how genetics works? I think he thinks that DNA comes from where you're born, not your ancestors. Thanks!

I used to really pounce on questions like this. They really got me going. Now I largely ignore them. Wasted energy.

However, since its you asking, I will respond.

Firstly, if aliens are truly looking for intelligent life forms, and they seem to be focusing on Americans, we can only conclude that they believe, and rightly so, that Americans are smarter than the rest of the population. After all, most people believe that if aliens exist that they are far more advanced intellectually than we mere mortals. I take that as a compliment. I still don't want to be abducted by aliens though!

Secondly, you are quite right, most of us do have ancestors of European descent, so therefore the poster of this question was demeaning his own people, as well as most of Europe. He obviously wasn't thinking clearly, but, we'll have to give him a break and just say that his arrogant prejudice against Americans was blinding him to the cold, hard facts.

Lastly, no matter where you are born, you still have a genetic link to your ancestors. Geographic location at the time of one's birth has nothing to do with DNA. None of us can escape what is already in our blood. The double helix does not discriminate.

The thing to remember though, is that all of us are connected by God. He loves us all and wants us to love each other. This is sometimes difficult, especially when someone insults your intelligence and your country.

It is very hard not to let our pride in our country and our own self respect get in the way of what God wants us to do.

I choose not to let these people bother me any more. I wish them love and enlightenment. Having that much hate in your heart must be a terrible burden. I can only imagine how unhappy they really are.

We are all of us human, and therefore, we should try to always accept each other as such. Geography and heritage aside, we have much in common, the threads of which bind us all.

The people who call dissenters anti-Americans live in a one-dimensional black and white world. To them, some people are always right and some are always wrong. For example, Bush can't possibly make a bad decision, and Michael Moore always lies. Here is an example of how the normal human being's mind operates: Bill Clinton has told lies and has also made mistakes. Bill Clinton was an excellent president.

All humans are capable of boorish behavior whether they come from the United States or Europe. There's a lot of anti-United States sentiment right now due to the President and because of the war in the Middle East. Rather than attack the policy of the President it is far easier to attack the United States as a whole and that extends to her civilians. I've heard a lot of "who could be so stupid as to vote for such an idiotic President" type sentiment and it spills over to encompass everyone who lives in the U.S. Funny how easy it is to just generalize rather than really discuss the issues.

I do think it's funny that some Europeans hate Americans, but a lot of Americans dislike those silly little Euros right back. Either way, everyone's going to have predjudice towards someone who is different. It's sad that a lot of them don't realize it's the motherland for almost every white American. People don't want to care about history and bully someone else just so they can feel more secure.

Its not a genetic stupidity, its that the USA fosters a culture of what appears to be almost a prideful ignorance. Many Americans display an attitude of 'we don't give a damn about the rest of the world. We don't need to know anything about it because we are number one'. And that really gets on people's nerves.

We're all related.
Like the kid yesterday who wanted to know why the Brits have such bad teeth. Ah - guess where your ancestors probably came from, sonny!

Excellent! My parents are from Europe, and I've noticed Europeans will gobble up anything they are fed in the media, especially about Americans, instead of finding out for themselves.

And of course, if they need financial or military help...who do you think they ask??

I don't care if your grandpa's grandpa came from Europe. You're an American, period.

Edit: You are ridiculous. You are not only a wannabe European, but you assume I don't know what genetics mean. I think I am obliged to tell you that I am not an American, so I obviously know what "genetics" mean.

First of all, I didn't know you were fully American only and only if your ancestors were from Europe. Well, what you say comes down to that. So if a person is ethnically Asian, then according to you she/he isn't American? Wow, you amaze me, GENETICS! Similarly, blacks aren't American either?

Your genes mean nothing to me. What do you think I am, a white supremacist? It is down to culture and you are just an American. You are bound to be isolated and ignorant, because even your country's safety is based on ignorance. If you are concerned with genetics to such an extent, say hello to your buddy Hitler. (He doesn't like Americans, but it's worth a shot huh?)

Oh also drop that "can someone" routine, we're not in an American kindergarten class.

So?

We americans make fun of the French/Canadian/Brits/Aussies/Germans/Russians/Italians every chance we get. And once again, we get infuriated when a European with balls tries to tell us off?

Just to show you that regardless of where you live in the world, it's still crowded by idiots.

True, true. My ancestors were from Ireland and Germany.. but I was born here in the U.S. So, then, it's safe to assume that since I'M a stupid American, I got it from my German and Irish family...?
