I personally think that in the u.s.a. doesn't exist communism and that the left side there is more near to the right than for example in italy where we have two "comunist" parties and the left is truly divised from the right side. here in italy the left side is more active and actually our country now is divised in two parts (50 % cdl=right side and 50% unione=left side)
i belive that american first think of themselves as american than as republicans or democratics here in italy doesn't happen that way people don't think themselves as italian..they think themselves as which party they vote..and this way make our nation divised into two parts..which is in my opinion is worse

is it true that in the u.s.a. there isn't a lot of difference between left or right?(at least less than in italy)

It is embedded in the liberal view, and they would like to increase it's foothold on the American values. But we will boldly fight them tooth and nail to continue to be a core value nation.

What Americans consider left wing, is not what Italians consider left wing. Italy has had a pretty big history with left wing movements and truly socialist parties... whereas America has not. Communism is certaintly non-existant in America.

America's version of a left wing party is the Democratic Party. However, the Democrats by world standards are not left wing... they don't advocate socialism and often vote for things that Conservatives (right wingers) traditionally would.

Also remember America's political structure is alot different than Italy's. America has no Party confidence, meaning that representatives have the freedom to choose what to vote for... whereas with Party confidence most representatives are just back banchers and have to vote with their party, or cross the floor. Italy has a parliamentary system of government.. like Canada and Britain. America's system is much more flexible in that way,... people don't have to associate themselves with the party because they party really doesn't matter as much as it does in countries like Italy.

Much difference between the ideas and actions of the two there is.

Many 'Lefts' much more 'Right' are they today then in the past. Fear of not being elected because of religious influence has this been caused by.

Less freedom today has this caused. Attacks on the Constitution has this caused.

Work we continue to do..... but dislike for the ideas of the others we also have. Divided we are not.........Polarized in things that are good and bad for the world we are.

Evil is the Dark Side......... Count "W" and Emperor Cheney.

Learned from the past Europe has........ No 'Fascist' parties does Italy or other European Countries today have. Learned this not has the U.S..... Republicans (right-wing) today are the fascist party. A police state they would have it be.

You must remember that being called a communist in the U.S. is roughly equivalent to being called a murderer, or worse. Being a communist in this country was illegal for years, and may still be in some states. Avowed communists were persecuted and surveiled by the FBI for years, and may still be.
We were taught to believe that communism was evil, and that socialism was only slightly less so. Consider the republican opposition to "Socialized Medicine."
We are, perhaps, the only "developed" nation in the world that does not have some type of "universal" health care.
We have physicians in this country who earn $500,000 and more per year. While I believe that people who work hard should be paid well, I find that a bit obscene.

The socialist movement has been active in America for over 100 years. The large majority of Americans reject the ideology. There are some social programs we embrace, such as free public schooling. There are other we are considering, like universal health care.
The problem with social programs, however, is that it give the government the power to coerce the people. Americans have held power over the government since 1776. We are not likely to relinquish that power regardless of what socialists want.

There is a communist party in America, but it has very few members,as socialism in its true form does not appeal to the American personality...
There are what we call ultra Conservative, who will call anyone a communist or socialist who holds a view other than there own and that's because they have little knowledge of communism or socialism..
You are correct in saying for the most part Americans are American first before party politics...and unlike europeans americans can be very weary of politics !

Communism does not exist in the form found elsewhere in world in this nation. Here is primarily a movement of a few intellectual types and some militant labor union activists.

We do have socialists though. They are just afraid to admit it.

That's nice..we have the ACLU and other entities making a mess of democracy, but if the Security and Prosperity Partnership Meeting goes well tomorrow in Quebec the USA will no longer be a sovereign nation and no longer a democracy. How's that?

I think socialism is very alive and well in the USA. The democratic party is full of people who have very strong socialist leanings. the redistribution of wealth to the government controlled health care and the silencing of free speech through political correctness. the democrat presidential candidates all have very strong socialist roots and beliefs. I just don't think it is full blown Communism yet but who knows what their plans are.

There is no serious communist party worthy of note in the USA. There are a lot of "right wing" political commentators here that seeks to associate the Democratic party with communism, but, it isn't true at all. It is political advertising to keep Republican loyal to their party.

Very good observation and thank you for the information about Italy.
Go to www.CPUSA.com and you will begin to learn about the communist party in America.
You will see that many of the principles they speak about are in line with the vision of the Democratic party.
They have very little influence but, it is growing.
