How much will college algebra help with this class? Are there particular parts to the class to pay extra attention to since I’m mostly interested in learning about business and accounting? I’m disappointed about having to take this class, but would feel better about it if I knew why I had to take it.

It'll help if you're good in this cos there's a fair bit of algebra in Accounting especially in calculating stuff like double declining depreciation and bonds discount and net present value of leases and stuff like that. Try not to keep saying you dislike it and it'll be easier.

As Economics theory advances, it becomes more and more important in finance to solve problems when you do not know all the variables, or what the results might be when the inputs are adjusted.

Thus, today you need to know algebra to be able to do finance.

It won't be long before you also need to know Calculus, or some other math discipline, as a pre-requisite to doing some finance.
