Hi guys, i have been collecting warhammer for about 4 months or so now, painted a couple of the models. I was wondering on whether to enter Golden Daemon or not, but i know at my current skill i am not good enough.

Would you be kind enough to state what you think of my latest piece?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the replies :).

And Gid, the colour for the skulls is done from a colour from Games Workshop called Bleached Bone. Layers onto a brown and then a yellow-brown it looks pretty nice.

The sword is my first attempt at blending, so i was hoping it would look ok :).

Thanks for the tips geddit.

If you could zoom in on the model you can see the highlights on the black. But they are very subtle. I basically used a blacked down grey drybrushed over it, then inked as you say.

Unfortunately, the light seems to be counteracting the most of it i think.

I will be trying to set out more modelling later on when i get the painting itself down to a t :), as for the metal using none metallic paints, i need to find out how lol,

thanks again.

That's a very impressive miniature, but nowhere near good enough for Golden Demon. In the spirit of preparing you for a future Golden Demon, here's my advice.

I think the sword and cloak look good (I really like the cloak), but some of the other areas are just too flat. The armour in particular needs to be highlighted or shaded better: since it takes up a large proportion of the model. Black (and similarly white) can be hard to add depth to: since if you overdo it it looks grey, but one way is to use a dark grey and shade with black ink.

Also, the skulls could use more subtle shading. What's there is good, but the 'top' models would have better transition between the dark and light bits.

Perhaps most importantly, the Golden Demon models often have something a little odd about them: something special and experimental. One of my favourites was a diorama about burning a witch with firelight shining onto every surface on the scene. Other coloured lighting effects always look effective (if there is a light source in your scene, for example your sword might work). Another example would be using non metal metals: a technique where you use greys instead of standard metallic paints. If you get the White Dwarfs which have Golden Demon winners in them, you can see what I mean, pay attention to the odd things the judges look for.

Best of luck in your future painting.

Hey Guy.
Welcome to the world of painting Miniatures. Must say this, your work is pretty darn good for a beginner, keep going!
The best rule of thumb when working on a project is patience!
Take your time, don't rush. If something frustrates you, set it aside and do something else.
Colors look good, try to stay away from gloss paints, especially when painting leather or fabric. Also, check out the Vallejo or Andreas Miniatures range of paints. Great coverage and easy to blend to create shading and shadows.
Hope this helps.

WOW! My husband has been into Warhammer for 8 years and i have seen a lot of painted warhammer models. I can't believe you have been only doing this for 4 months. That is incredible and nicely done on your painting. Keep up with a good work!

I'm impressed, the way you used the colors to go with the play of light on the figurine is mesmerizing, also the way you blended your colors is very well done, I have always had problems with reaching that lovely antique yellowish beige color you have used on the skulls, and the blend on the sword from light to dark, basically your depth and manipulation of color is impressive. I'd buy it! which in itself shows you what I think of it, for I am a tight fisted little capricorn, lol. As always you impress me with all of your facets!
