in essence, business is education's customer.

most Americans work in business, not for the government or as self-employed. Business wants employees who actually know some things and can accomplish [or they move the business to China if they can].

poorly educated employees mean simply that more of the good paying jobs move to Korea and China. And that means that business in America is in big trouble. [not to mention that America would be in big trouble as well.]
